Another little known gem is Tasmania, the island south of the mainland. (There is) not a straight piece of road for more than 700ft and the roads are almost all sealed and in super condition. Corners, corners and more corners, sleepy little historical towns and hills and mountains up to 7000ft all which makes for an unbeatable package of compact size. (Peter added it would be great for even one week and you’ll find nice people etc...) (To get to Tasmania) you have to take your bike over via a 12 hour ferry ride through Bass Strait. (The Strait) has produced many a green faces and carvery dinners from the superb restaurant on board which could be checked on during the night, literally, seeing is believing!
Back on the mainland, Victoria’s roads are famous within the country. They’re good, most of them sealed, and up in the hills all of them are spectacular. (They are) narrow I guess, in comparison to the roads in the U.S. and not super smooth, but thrills galore on a bike and certainly a feast for the optical nerves. Not really Heritage and Goldwing country though it is perfect sportbike country if your backbone can stand it.
In general distances are similar to the U.S., but with far less people around. Towns listed on maps can often mean a petrol station/general store combo and a handful of buildings in the further distance.
Anyway, if someone’s interested, just let me know. We’ll help wherever we can.
Thanks Peter, I know they’re
