Well... for the start, everything is down-under, (the) best time is in November - April. That’s summer! Beware (of) the holidays, X-mas to late January. It can get quite hot, sometimes past 100F. At the moment it’s quite cold, around the high 50 to 60s, often windy and wet.
Melbourne is at the top of a big bay (that is) about 60 miles long by 30 miles wide. (The bay) is surrounded by a circle of low hills up to 1000ft, therefore it catches the weather. Further out it is quite hilly. To the east the mountains go to about 6500 to 7000ft which of course makes for perfect bike roads. The "Australian Alps" stretch right up from the east coast up into the tropical north, running parallel to the coast about 3-50 miles inland. The best part is down south in Victoria and New South Wales.

Another little known gem is Tasmania, the island south of the mainland. (There is) not a straight piece of road for more than 700ft and the roads are almost all sealed and in super condition. Corners, corners and more corners, sleepy little historical towns and hills and mountains up to 7000ft all which makes for an unbeatable package of compact size. (Peter added it would be great for even one week and you’ll find nice people etc...) (To get to Tasmania) you have to take your bike over via a 12 hour ferry ride through Bass Strait. (The Strait) has produced many a green faces and carvery dinners from the superb restaurant on board which could be checked on during the night, literally, seeing is believing!

Back on the mainland, Victoria’s roads are famous within the country. They’re good, most of them sealed, and up in the hills all of them are spectacular. (They are) narrow I guess, in comparison to the roads in the U.S. and not super smooth, but thrills galore on a bike and certainly a feast for the optical nerves. Not really Heritage and Goldwing country though it is perfect sportbike country if your backbone can stand it.

In general distances are similar to the U.S., but with far less people around. Towns listed on maps can often mean a petrol station/general store combo and a handful of buildings in the further distance.

Anyway, if someone’s interested, just let me know. We’ll help wherever we can.

Thanks Peter, I know they’re interested
