Things are starting to come together a bit. For those of you following this project, it may seem that I am not moving very fast. That would be correct. There are a couple of reasons for this. 

If you decide to try something like this keep this in mind:

1. You are not a professional frame maker. You will spend as much time deciding how to do it as you spend deciding what you want to do regarding your design
   
2. You have a time and a money budget. One of my goals was to do a reasonably tidy job for a modest amount of money. Working within a budget, slows you down.
   
3. If I were to do a second frame (and I may) it would go much quicker as I have learned a lot and I now have more tools (mental tools and hardware) in place.

 Here are some of the specifications now that I have "committed" myself to by welding the big parts together

Parts I am using

• Rear swinging fork from Honda CBR600F2
• Front Forks from Honda CBR600F2
• Engine is a 1985 XL600 RFVC type with twin carbs.
• Front Wheel from CBR600F2/F3

The rest of the parts list:

• Standard Honda CBR-F2/F3 running gear (brakes, front wheel, calibers)
• Most likely, I will use the CBR rear shock and linkage and fabricate the top mounting point. I anticipate some refinements in this area as this is a lighter, shorter motorcycle
• Single Carb. type Cylinder Head from a XR-RFVC 600cc. Currently I have the XL600R twin carburetor head which I'm not a fan of for this type of application.
• The fuel tank is my biggest question mark at this point. I'm not a "fabricator" that can pound, beat and shape a tank from scratch. Nor do I have the tooling to do it with out losing my mind. (and probably a finger). The biggest obstacle at this point is that the backbone of the frame is a larger fiameter than usual. I figure I have about 3 options
  • Take an exisiting tank, cut it, widen it and weld in a few pieces. (sounds good on paper doesn't it)
  • Make one from fiberglass. Everyone tells me this is not too bad to do
  • Have one made in aluminum or fiberglass ($$$$$!!!!!!)
