Being a co-founder has been a very interesting journey in itself. At first I think Tony and I saw it as being a great savings to other motorcyclists. However, the comments of our membersconstantly remind me of the other benefits of BikeSharing. Benefits that I can't place a dollar value on.

When I arrived in the UK to use Tony's R80RT to see Scotland and the British Midlands, I knew of some places I wanted to see. Other than that, I had my maps and a tent. Tony, his wife Shirley and Sebastian the wonder dog, took me in and made me feel right at home. For me it was great to get this peek into "a day in the life" in England. You don't always get this when you travel. Tony then sat me down and shared with me some thoughts about what to see, what to skip and what roads might be worthwhile. What a great benefit that turned out to be. I found sights like the Road to Applecross. Wow!

In 1995 I returned to Europe for a more extensive BikeShare. I started out with a ferry ride from Harwich to Hoek van Holland. I enjoyed Amsterdam and a visit to the home of my ancestors, Borculo, NL The BikeShare took me south through Germany to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland which was spectacular. On the ride back to England I stopped and visited the D-Day beaches where my grand-father had landed decades before. My BikeShare went so well I lost track of what day it was. That was great except I had tickets for the British round of the FIA - Formula-1 car race at Silverstone. I almost missed it! Read about it....

I've met, visited and stayed with several BikeShare members from the U.S. Canada and the UK. What a great bunch of people. They are a diverse mix of professions backgrounds and interests. To top it off, they love to travel by motorcycle when possible.

As for me, by day I teach tomorrow's future leader's at a local high school. I made the switch to public education after working in the motorcycle industry full-time for 25+ years.
